Dr. Hales is a board certified orthopaedic spine surgeon, specializing in medical and surgical problems of the spine and neck, total disc replacements, Kyphoplasty, fusions, scoliosis, minimally invasive techniques, including Coflex procedures.
Dr. Hales completed a spine fellowship through the University of California, Los Angeles’ departments of neurosurgery and orthopaedics and was an assistant clinical professor at the university’s School of Medicine. Joining Northern Arizona Orthopaedics in 1988, Dr. Hales is a specialist in spinal diseases and surgery with a special emphasis on minimally invasive techniques and implants.
Dr. Hales is actively involved in the performing arts community, participating in the Master Chorale of Flagstaff since 1990, singing tenor. He is also a pilot and enjoys scuba diving and weight lifting.
