Happy Birthday, Dr. Cody Martin!

He’s “kinda” a big deal. The medical staff, service teams and patients at NAO wish Dr. Cody Martin, our newest joint replacement surgeon, a very wonderful birthday! We asked this board-certified, fellowship-trained doc what gets him out of bed in the morning. Here’s what he said:

One of the sweetest joys in this life is helping relieve someone else’s pain and suffering. I love being an orthopaedic surgeon because I am able to see patients overcome their injuries and musculoskeletal problems and improve their quality of life. I may not have all the answers, but I will do my best to provide the best care that an orthopaedic surgeon has to offer.

I graduated with University Honors from Brigham Young University with an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering. In medical school at the University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City, I was inducted as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. After my orthopaedic surgery residency, I decided to choose an advanced level of training and complete a fellowship in hip and knee arthroplasty. This prepared me to manage complex and simple hip and knee replacements. I also treat general orthopaedic problems including traumatic injuries and fractures.

I have specialized training in the direct anterior approach for total hip replacement, as well as lateral and posterior approaches. I am also trained in navigated total knee replacement, in addition to conventional alignment techniques. These different surgical approaches allow me to give individualized, personal care based on a patient’s needs while practicing with cutting-edge technology and skill.

I find great joy in serving my community, including the international community. I have served missions in Ghana, Peru and Haiti. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my wife and three children. I love the outdoors and my family and I are thrilled to live and play in Flagstaff.
