Dr. Mahoney is a board certified, fellowship-trained Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in Spine, with more than 13 years experience providing surgical and non-surgical care. Practicing in the Spine and Pain Center at NAO, Dr. Mahoney is a leader in minimally invasive back and neck surgery in northern Arizona.
“I utilize technology and techniques considered state-of-the-art in spine surgery today, and I have a deep appreciation for innovation, ” says Dr. Mahoney. ” I incorporate my knowledge and skill into the surgical spine interventions I provide patients. One of them is a minimally invasive technique called Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion (TLIF). I also perform a Oblique Lateral Interbody Fusion (OLIF) for lateral approach to access the spine. If the patient is the right candidate for a minimally invasive surgery, they will benefit from less tissue damage, pain and faster healing than traditional back and neck surgeries. My goal is always to stay as conservative as possible and treat non-surgically, if possible.”
Mahoney earned his Doctorate of Medicine from New York University School of Medicine, following a bachelor’s in Biological Sciences from Fordham University, New York City. After his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at the prestigious Yale University School of Medicine, in New Haven, CT, Mahoney extended his training by completing a spine fellowship program at SpineCare Medical Group in Daly City, Calif. This fellowship provided him with additional, specialized training and is a marker of a surgeon who has chosen to make the extra investment in his field of medicine.
Flagstaff and the surrounding communities are tremendously fortunate to have a physician with this level of sub-specialty expertise providing this care to the people who live here. Dr. Mahoney practices in our Flagstaff, White Mountains and Prescott locations.

“I love being a part of NAO and the Flagstaff community. Treating patients with the utmost care and attention and returning them to a pain-free life is why I practice. I treat my patients as if they were a member of my family and try to create the most effective treatment plan for him or her, be it non-operative or surgical.”
”As a longtime Flagstaff resident, I am happy our little mountain town has a spine surgeon like Dr. Mahoney caring for the people here. I felt comfortable from the first appointment with him. He spent time with me explaining my options and answered all my questions, never making me feel rushed. After my successful spine surgery, I feel so blessed and grateful to have had such a competent and attentive doctor and staff. “
”Dr. Eamonn Mahoney and staff went over and above normal expectations to help me. I cannot say enough positive things to express my gratitude. When they saw the pain I was in, they pushed me through the process to get faster than normal procedures on the same day of my first visit. While I could still need surgery, my pain level is now very manageable and my confidence in this staff is extremely high should I ultimately need surgery. Thank you Dr Mahoney and staff!“
”Dr Mahoney took time with me he explained things that had not been explained before. I wish there was a book as to what to expect after this type of surgery. Thank you Dr Mahoney for being patient and understanding.“
