Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM & R)

Northern Arizona Orthopaedics offers Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM & R) services at the Spine and Pain Center.

Physiatry, also known as Rehabilitation Medicine, is a non-surgical care approach which aims to enhance and restore function from physical impairments or disabilities affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles and tendons.

Physiatry

A physician having completed training in this field is referred to as a Physiatrist. Unlike other medical specialties that focus on a medical “cure,” the goals of Physiatrists are to maximize patients’ independence in activities of daily living and improve quality of life.

The first priority of our care team is to pinpoint exactly where nerve pain is coming from.  Then, developing a whole-body, patient-centered plan based on each patient’s lifestyle and goals, they treat the whole person, including the source of pain. Interventions use cutting-edge and time-tested methods for treatment. Some procedures for treatment include:

  • EMG/Nerve Conduction Studies
  • Injections of spine
  • Nerve Stimulators
  • Nerve Blocks and Ablation procedures - Peripheral and Spinal
